Documenting the Olympics is a once-in-a-life experience for photographers—better not blow it! When Sports Illustrated sent photographer Rich Clarkson to the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, many of the other eager photographers were well-stocked with complex technical gadgets. Clarkson, in contrast, concentrated on telling the story behind the event results. His brilliant, thoughtful images won him the cover and several additional images.
