The San Juan Islands are just off the Washington coast near Seattle, but they're a world apart in terms of climate: they get half Seattle's rain and 250 sunny days each year. Outdoor Odysseys specializes in kayak-camping trips through the archipelago, dipping between unnamed islands and following in the wakes of orcas, minke whales, and porpoises. Stands of Douglas fir and cedar provide shelter for camping; guides are locals with backgrounds in marine ecology, biology, and natural history.
