This image was shot after a dewy morning in the hills of Mount Beauty, Victoria, Australia. Red Bull had set up this amazing dirt half pipe for BMX competitions and I was lucky enough to be invited to a weekend where 26-inch wheels were allowed on the course. Not many lads wanted to jump this due to the morning damp, but Alan Hepburn decided to give it everything for the shot. The light, the backdrop, the trick, all made for one of my favorite MTB shots ever.

The town of Hilton in South Africa is known for its misty weather, which came out in full force for an annual mountain bike classic. The unusually wet winter's day challenged competitors with muddy tracks, low visibility and an icy wind. I battled to just keep my camera dry, and after failing to obtain sharp images through the haze, I took a step back and framed this shot, which captures the adventurous rider tackling the harsh environment.

Otavalo, Ecuador

While doing some mountain biking near Otavalo, Ecuador, I met two young locals named Paul and Patricio. I had planned to ride to "El Lechero," an ancient tree described by legend as having magical effects on those who touch it. They accompanied me and we set up this shot. The contrast of the modern day mountain bikers and the old tree gives an almost mystical feel to the image, and the equatorial midday light coming from "directly above" creates a surreal visual effect on the branches of the tree.

Race Contestant, Canada

The TransRockies Mountain Biking race is one of the toughest and biggest MTB races in Canada. Over 500 bikers from all over the world come to race on the TransRocky spine. This shot was taken during the heat of the race, after about 200 riders missed the trail and turned back after realizing the mistake. A race to be remembered.
