While surfing at Honolua Bay, Maui, Hawaii, I decided I was too tired to stay in the water and opted to shoot what was left of the remaining light. All of the elements came together as the waves rolled in and the sun set beside the island of Lanai.

Lake Michigan, Indiana

'Twas the day after Christmas in the heartland of America. We ventured into Indiana to surf on the south end of Lake Michigan. There was ice and snow all around, temps well into freezing, ice chunks floating in the slushy waters. This is my good friend Artem Abakumov right before we got in the water.

A picture that depicts Malibu's beauty from a different perspective. The exposure of the ocean's bottom due to the low tide, in combination with the surrounding gulls, make the surfer experience the ocean's powerful aura.

Queensland Coast, Australia

Dean Brady from Australia's Sunshine Coast rides a picture-perfect wave 62 miles (100 kilometers) off the Queensland Coast on the outer fringes of the Great Barrier Reef. Waves on this part of the coast are very rare and it's near impossible to get good ones more than once a year. Shot from a boat sitting just meters away in the deep channel.

Teahupo'o, Tahiti

Billabong Pro Tahiti surfing competition in Teahupo'o on August 26, 2011. I happened to be on a shoot in Rangiroa and, as a sports photographer, relished the opportunity of taking pictures of this event. We were sitting on a bobbing boat behind the Billabong accredited boats. I had an excellent skipper that maneuvered the boat with incredible skill for me to be able to get in the shots. The waves that day were pretty high. These surfers have nerves of steel to challenge such massive waves.

A display of woody cars from long ago. This was at a Southern California show the other week. A very nostalgic day indeed. I tried to keep people and anything modern out of the photo. I think I would have liked to be alive back then.

Snapper Rocks, South East Queensland, Australia

Snapper Rocks, South East Queensland, Australia. Surfers head across the rocks to the jumping-off point, waiting for the set. Once the set passes they will jump where the wave is exploding and paddle to get ready for the ride of their lives. This is one of the most popular surf destinations in Australia, if not the world, and when the cyclonic storm swells arrive, it's on.

Lexi loves watching Rob surf and waits patiently on the shore for him to finish. It doesn't matter where you take dogs, or what you do, all they want is to be loved and by your side. Taken in Tofino, British Columbia, Canada.

Taken in Las Pepitas, Nicaragua, at a local surf lodge. This shot pretty much sums up the entire look and feel of this Pacific Coast beach village: rustic, colorful, and yet with just the slightest tinge of tourism testing its authenticity. I saw these boards resting against the mural-painted wall and couldn't help but snap a shot of them.

Surfing is an obsession for some people. Here on the iconic Wategos Beach in Byron Bay, Australia, it is a religious experience. In the aquamarine waters at sunset one finds peace and distance from the business and demands of daily life, a refuge for the tired soul. This photo reflects that moment seconds before the pilgrim enters his holy shrine and bestows his soul to the ocean for purification.
