Sardine's Restaraunt sits right on the lake and is very close to Madison's campus. Great place to eat, great looking bar and eating area and a great view onto the lake.

I live West of town and the road cycling out this way deserves special mention. Tree lined lightly travelled roads with lots of hills. Also, things don't stop in the winter. We have 3 downhill areas within an hour of Madison. There are numerous cross country areas within the city (Elver Park is lighted), nearby State (Blue Mounds awesome grooming) and County Parks. And lets not forget ice skating on the lakes and in the city parks.

Just a note to National Geographic: you've incorrectly placed Madison, WI on your map. It's not near Green Bay, but rather more central and south. Also, just for those interested in checking it out, the Madison Farmers' Market happens on Saturdays around the Capitol Square from 6am-2pm.

I ran the Marathon through the streets and parks of Madison each of the last 3 years. The wooded areas line the lakes, the residential streets have amazing character and the route through the city streets passes landmarks that include the capital building and Camp Randall. It is nothing but beautiful and amazing! To make it even better, it all ends at BRAT FEST! Who wouldn't want brats and beer after that kind of a run?
