Two points: Number 53, by Slavomir Rawicz, has been disproved as a fake tale that never happened. Second - You might want to take a look at Paula Constant's recent release, 'Sahara' - she walked over 7000km with camels and local nomads. Longest Saharan expedition by a woman on her own, and truly gripping.

Quite the contrary, Henry Morton Stanley was Welsh. He traveled to America by working as a deckhand for a British sailor who was sailing to New Orleans.
