Avalanche on the Khumbu Icefall
Photographer Jake Norton was in Base Camp on May 2 when a chunk of glacier fell from a serac on the West Shoulder, causing an avalanche that took out a portion of the route over the Khumbu Icefall. Thankfully, none of the climbers were hurt, and Norton was able to capture this image of the event. If you zoom in on the offending serac, you can see it preparing to shed another section.
