First off, let me say that I just got this bag today...so this may need to be updated in the future. But, this pack is awesome. I am not reviewing it as a snow pack, but rather a small day pack...similar in size and toughness as the Black Diamond Bullet. I currently have the Bullet and love it. I've had it for a few years and it's super tough and functional...but there are only two compartments...not a lot of organization. I love that the bullet does not have back padding, as it conforms to your body and does not have any shape of it's own...it's also light and packable. But I wanted something a little bit larger with more organization but just as tough as the Bullet. In comes the Silo 18. For me, this thing is just about perfect. It is tough, perfectly sized, and has a total of 4 pockets. The framesheet is not removable, but that's okay...there are obvious pluses to having one. Using it as a daypack, I do not need the ski holding strap system...so I cut them off....in fact I cut all the extra stuff off and even trimmed the extra length off the shoulder straps. Now this thing is a streamlined, perfectly-sized, water resistant daypack. I can not understand why this pack hasn't gotten more recognition as a daypack or otherwise...it is absolutely awesome. I did a ton of research before buying this pack and I really feel that it's one of the best options out there. And of course quality-wise it's all top notch...standard Arc'teryx. Feel free to ask any questions about the pack.

Great winter activity pack
I used this pack on a recent trip to Utah. Although I cannot comment on its ski hauling ability, the strap system is great for snowshoes. The size of the pack was ideal for day outings in the winter, and for my minimalist tastes it could easily work for a single "overnighter". It held both mine and my wife's extra layers as well as our lunch, snacks, water and safety gear. The thermoplastic back mold with padding was VERY comfortable. Prior to buying this pack, I was a bit wary because it had no true hip belt. All my previous packs have, so I have a good idea of the comfort they afford the user. This pack was as comfortable as ones with a true hip belt. (For reference, my other preferred pack is an Osprey Talon 22). The molded back causes the weight to just above the butt in the small of the back. As a relatively thin male, I found this more comfortable than having hipbelt straps pressing on my pelvic bones. Lastly, the pack is narrow enough in the shoulder area that it sits in between the shoulder blades. I forgot I was wearing the pack at times. All in all a great pack and worth the money.

Perfect size, incredible capacity for size, sleek, love it!
It is simply perfect. Super clean thoughtful design. Materials...Arc Teryx, what can you say-state of the art. It is so unobtrusive even when loaded up. Looks small, but the design is so well thought out, you can really load it up if you need to. Goggle pocket rocks. I am a professional photographer and use it primarily now for cameras and lenses. I'm a snowboarder though and wanted a pack to take snowboarding. I like to simplify and this allows me to do that. Snowboarding in Niseko, Japan now on my third week and have hit the incredible back country here and this pack is always with me.

The silo 18 is a great pack, its been snowboarding, hiking, camping and backpacking through Germany. All around, great pack. A little small, but thats what you need sometimes- very lightweight. Am returning to Altrec cause of the zippers broke(after like 3 years), but Altrecs lifetime warranty will take care of me, so everythings good, I will probably order another silo 18 though.
