Filson Mackinaw Cruiser
This is an awesome coat! I got it in navy and the color is darker than pictured, which I like. This jacket runs a little big, but that is so you have room to layer a shirt and sweater underneath it. I'm pretty slim/semi-athletic at 155 / 5'11'' (I normally wear a 40R suit jacket), and I got a size 38. It fits well, but I sacrificed layering room for a slimmer fit. This is not a skinny-fit coat, but if you size down it will fit slimmer. I suggest searching the exact measurements of these coats on google to ensure the perfect fit. The wool is rugged but not too rough or scratchy (although I wouldn't want to wear it with a short-sleeve shirt underneath it). The craftsmanship of this MADE IN U.S.A. (made in Seattle, Washington) coat is top-notch, as with all Filson products. I can't wait to buy more Filson stuff in the near-future.
A winner by Filson
Filson makes top of the line products. The Mackinaw Cruiser Jacket is no certainly one of them. I have owned mine for over a 2 years and it is showing no signs of wear. I'm not exactly a "light use" kind of guy. I want to buy something once and never need to purchase again for twenty years. This certainly falls into that category of products. The buttons are strong, the fit for shoulders and arms is just right. It seems a bit long, but the more coverage in colder weather the better. The wool is not super itchy. (But I wouldn't wear it stark naked either)
I am typically a men's 36S suit jacket. I ordered the 36 cruiser and it was pretty large in the chest and far too long in body and sleeves. While there was plenty of room for layering, I still felt that it was too big on me and certainly too long. If you are a 38 and you want it to be more fitted, try the 36. If you are a 36 and have short arms or torso, you might have to order a custom from Filson. Wow, this coat was nice. I so wish it fit!
