I love this shoe
I bought this shoe primarily as a waterproof shoe to wear around town and I had not intended on hiking much in it (the tread just didn't look like it was that aggressive). However, on a recent trip to the NW, I had the opportunity to do some hiking and only had this shoe with me. Over the course of that trip (and subsequent wear) this shoe has really proved itself. Most of this review focuses on the trip I took to Oregon as that is where I put it through it's paces. I put on about 15 miles of walking around town and another 15-20 hiking. These shoes initially seemed a little snug (I have a slightly wide forefoot), but they were fine after the first few miles. I don't generally find that lightweight shoes like this break in much (and for that reason I almost returned them). I'm so glad I didn't as now, I find them completely comfortable. These shoes did a top notch job keeping out moisture. They are completely waterproof (even standing in puddles)-which is what I expect from GoreTex products. What blew me away was how breathable they were. I don't generally consider waterproof products to breath that well. Some will do a decent job of keeping sweat buildup to a minimum, but that's about it in my experience. So on the 6th day into the trip, I stepped into a stream that was deeper than my shoe was tall. Water went over the top and soaked my foot. Even though it was raining and humid, my foot dried out over the course of the next two hours of the hike. I've just never experienced that before. Two BIG thumbs! The other big surprise for me was how grippy the sole was. As I mentioned, I didn't expect much, but this shoe really grabs on to things. That same hike that I soaked my shoe I also encountered grass, mud, dirt, pine needles, and wet rock most at pretty steep inclines. Not only did I not accidentally slide out on any of these, testing for grip at various points showed that that these could really hold fast on just about anything. The fact that I didn't slide around on wet rock really floored me. I've never had the kind of confidence on that surface that I did with this shoe. About the only other thing to say about this shoe is that it is light weight. I knew that when I bought it and it's part of why I love it. At the same time, it offers no ankle support (to be expected from a low top) and would not be appropriate under any sort of load. Even heavier set people may find that it doesn't offer good enough support (may feel flimsy). I tried aftermarket insoles and while this helped some, the design (lots of open mesh and a thinner, lighter sole) is really intended as more of a trail-runner or light hiker. If the trade-offs I listed are agreeable, I highly recommend checking out this shoe.

These are my first pair of Garmonts and i will definitely be wearing another after these are worn out, Which I suspect to be a good while. Very comfortable, sizes run anywhere from a half to a full size smaller than normal shoes but once that adjustment is made all in all, a great shoe.

Great shoe for light hiking, or otherwise walking around town. Good traction. A great shoe for light to moderate snow. Comfortable and well-constructed.

Great light hiking shoe
So far so good. Good quality shoe for light hikes. Remember that if you order this shoe, order a half size up because gortex shoes have the bootie that your foot goes into which makes them smaller in size.
