Great accessory for short hikes.
This lumbar pack has been a good solution to my storage issue for shorter hikes. I don't like to hike with backpacks, but where else to put the water bottle, the granola bar and the fruit for that 2-4 hour hike? I have been on the fence about getting a lumbar pack, given its association to the horrid fanny pack (I am a child of the 1980s - I still quiver at the memory of my dad's fanny pack, which he wore everywhere), but I finally buckled and opted for the High Sierra Solo Lumbar Pack. I'm very glad that I did. First, it is very comfortable to wear. It fits well around the hip and lower back, and it does not feel bulky and in the way of a brisk hike. It has meshed padding, so there is breathability in the contact area. The adjustable strap allows both me and my husband to wear it. Second, it is just the right size for my intended use for it [short hikes], when I don't need a bunch of bulky compartments. The single compartment (with a divider) of this pack is big enough for a few granola bars and a banana or a small zip lock bag of apple slices. The included bottle is BPA-free, and is light weight, but sturdy. Third, the quality of the pack is high. I expect it to last for decades. Overall, I am glad that I chose to get over my pack phobia and get this lumbar pack.
Great for long walks!
I purchased this pack for a long walking event. The pack is the perfect size for keys, power bars, and phone with room to spare for other little necessities. Plenty of space and comfortable. Nice to have the water bottle too, which is BPA free.
Great for short hikes
I was looking for something really minimal to use on very short hikes. I hate to lug a heavy lumbar pack for a short distance. This fits the bill perfectly, and is very nicely made.
Heavy
High Sierra is my favorite brand for bags, however, I was a little dissapointed with this one. I planned to use it for light hiking (less than 2 hours), yet this bag's capacity is larger than what I need (it looked smaller from the picture). Anyway, it is well made by HS as usual. A bit on the heavy side for a small bag like this.
Great for a day hike
This pack is great for carrying smaller items. You might want to get something thicker if you need to carry bulkier items such as field guides, cameras, apples, etc. Also, the inside of the pack is divided, but no separate compartments. I like a separate compartment for keys, money, and other things I don't need access to. The water bottle and holder is a nice touch. Overall I am happy with my purchase since it does the job and was one of the cheapest I could find.
