Perfect bag w/ great features 4 young kids!
This is our second Keen kid's backpack and I keep coming back for more! My sons = 1st grader and kindergartener use the backpack daily to school. It's the perfect size for both of them. Pros: 1. Side water bottle pockets - keeps bottles secure (they don't fall out!) 2. Elastic bungee cords on the outside - keeps jackets secure 3. Clip on straps keeps backpack secure across the chest and back - straps don't fall off shoulders. 4. Light + whistle = great safety feature and my sons love both! 5. Great size - not too big, not to small. Great size for hiking, traveling and to school (our primary use). A bigger bag would not fit my 1st grader and kindergartener and also result in them carrying more than they are able to. You just don't find the above features on other kid backpacks. And believe me! I've search high/low for backpacks on every e-commerce and sporting good store. Cons: 1. Limited capacity. My sons primarily use this backpack for carrying their books/notebook to school. It can fit a few large library books and a binder. It can possibly carry a lunch sack, but not a large lunch box in addition to books. This is a great backpack. Since it's hard to find this Keen kid's backpacks and any backpack with these features, I've even purchased an extra one to keep in our closet...just in case if one of my sons ever looses it or wears it out (doubtful - one tough bag).

Durable but small
I purchased this backpack for my kindergartner. It looks great and seems to be very durable. She is very tall for her age, and the backpack still fits her very well. The inside of the pack is somewhat limited on space, but that may just be the nature of a junior size backpack. As this is the first one we have owned, I don't have anything else to compare it against. I love the side pockets which hold water bottles very well. I would absolutely recommend this product.

nice bag from Keen
Bought this for my 6-year-old to use as a school bag (she and I picked it out together online), but not sure it will be big enough for all of her books and supplies (incredible what they make first graders carry around). So, while it might not fit the bill for its intended function, I have no doubt that it will serve her well for other uses -- day hikes, overnights, etc. Though I can't judge its durability since we just got it, I am guessing from using a Keen bag as my everyday work bag that it should wear very well.
