Nice Jacket for outdoor activities!
All my friends recommended me to get a breathable, GORE-TEX jacket, to provide good durable, waterproof protection. I made the right decision to get a Mammut Fitz Roy Jacket. It seems to be my best choice of a hard shell jacket, since it is a good value and is capable to do any outdoor activity. This jacket kept me dry when I was walking and climbing at 40 degrees while wearing a long sleeve base layer inside. Get one!
I love it!
When I was initially looking for a jacket, I was looking at The North Face, but this Mammut caught my attention, and boy am I glad that I got it. As much as I love my North Face jackets, I feel that they are now obsolete! This jacket is so amazing with the C-Change fabric. I was able to test it out by going from warm summer weather and then into a deep freezer and I could visually see the fabric texture change before my eyes. As corny as it sounds, it was like magic! On another note lookwise, my girlfriend says "this is literally the hottest jacket I have seen" and it lives up to that as it is very warm to wear especially considering how light it is.
The Fitz Roy by Mammut is not what I wanted its more.
Originally, I was buying the Mammut Extreme Baltoro from a local dealer. A few days before I needed the jacket they told me it was no longer available and without the extra money to get anything else from the Mammut line I went home disappointed. Then comes altrec with a screaming deal on the Fitz Roy. I figured I couldn't go wrong and I was right. The Mammut Fitz Roy is not a plastic bag feeling shell, nor does it pack like one. The Fitz Roy is thicker, more durable, waterproof and a bombproof jacket. It feels tougher than a denim work jacket. I have gone skiing, hiking, rock climbing and mixed climbing in this jacket and it performed in every condition; from clawing up alpine cracks and chimneys to icy fist jams and falls on razor sharp rocks and ice. The Fitz Roy is like armor, put it on and never worry about it. It also comes with a cool powder skirt. This is not for the gram-counting guy who wants to wear a sandwich bag, or summer. It does run big, but it's a great buy.
Sweet jacket
Got this jacket a few days ago and have taken it out skiing two times since. This is a tough, versatile, and comfortable hard/soft shell jacket. The days I've taken it out have been warm (30F) with some funky precipitation. This jacket kept me dry without feeling like I was in a zip-lock bag. This jacket is one of the most satisfying outdoor apparel purchases I've made and I've never been disappointed with Mammut apparel. Though none of the descriptions I've found says so, this jacket does come with a nice removable powder skirt. Also, if you're heading to the slopes in this thing you'd better be able to tear it up like a bad a** because it looks pretty bad a** (not that I care how I look ... :)
Soft but tough lets the sweat out
I have had the Fitz for a month now and have used it skiing and hiking. The arms have extra room which is great for layering. The hood is roomy and easy to adjust. The thing I am most impressed with is the fact that I can hike vigorously with a insulation layer and the fabric actually was keeping me from overheating and the build up of sweat. I was a bit damp on top but by the time I got to the bottom there was not much moisture left, it was great and I stayed warm. I also stayed very comfortable with one layer of long underwear and the Fitz, it was 12 degrees. As for wind and water this puppy works, it cuts the wind out and the water beads off so you will stay dry. Last of all is the Fitz is comfortable and has a hardy feel about it. It was a great investment and it really blows away any softshells I have tried. It delivers the goods. I highly recommend this jacket for those who want quality, durability, and a jacket that does what it says it is supposed to do. Great work Mammut!!
