very functional
i love this jacket , it is a great layering piece for going outdoors, i am a fan of softshells and this one is very functional and looks great. i have recieved many compliments on the look of the jacket. the jacket size is accurate however if you think that you are going to layer with this piece always order a size up. i am 5'9 and i ordered a large for that reason and i am very glad i did. great jacket.

As great as it looks
I bought many Mammut products before for general outdoor activities and mountaineering. This is however the first time I got me something from Mammut for everyday use. I bought this jacket because I am convinced of the quality of Mammut products and because it looks great. I am 187cm (6ft 2in) tall and slim and the XL fits perfectly. The sleeves are long as they should be. The cut is long and narrow, hence perfect for a guy like me. The jacket has zippers on both side that run from about the middle of the upper arm all the way down to the bottom of the jacket. I was not out in heavy rain yet with this jacket, but, after I tested it under the faucet, I expect it to do a decent job for a soft-shell. Since I only own this jacket for a couple of weeks, I can also not say too much about its durability yet. That said, I am not worried about any bad surprises though, given the excellent quality of Mammut products. I definitely highly recommend this jacket for anyone who is looking for a trendy high quality jacket, be it for everyday use, for sporty activities or outdoor activities in unsettled weather.

Might be my favorite softshell
I own a TNF kishtwar jacket, arcteryx venta sv, and a TNF apex bionic softshell, and this jacket is as good or better than all of them. First off I love the color I got, Woodbine. At first I thought the color was ugly but it grew on me and I eventually bought it. It has gore windstopper technology, and it really is windproof. It also is very water resistant, I wore it in a blowing snowstorm and it kept me competely dry and kept all the wind out. The material is stretchy and comfortable and fits very well. The hood is easy to use and works great. The only thing I dont like about it is the little thumb holes, I think that looks kind of girly but I know some people use it so that's ok. I bought it on sale from altrec and believe it was a great purchase.

Top Notch
As many folks out there, when I think about laying down $100+ I spend time to learn about the product I'm thinking about buying. As such, I'd like to offer the below comments to those equally gear geeky as I. 1) This is a fantastic light softshell. It will block the wind, take plenty of abuse crashing through briers or crawling over rocks, and fit snuggly over a very light base layer or two. 2) the pit zip design is brilliant. Being able to unzip it from the bottom up allows you to turn it into a modern tunic, which when wearing a pack harness is great as you can clip your hip-belt under the jacket which means.....A) no annoying scrunching of jacket under hip belt, B) easy access to hand pockets pockets C) excellent heat regulation with easy access to zip and unzip the jacket from multiple angles 3) I'm a thick lad at 6'2, 240, and a chest around 46-47 so the large is quite snug, but because of its stretch it moves beautify. I caution everyone to remember that this piece & Mammut in general is "Euro cut" e.g. it assumes you're a narrow chested/shouldered bean pole. You may have to try on a few different sizes to find one that "feels right" 4) This jacket is not "warm," if your wearing a Tshirt standing around in 40 degree temps. This jacket it is plenty warm if you've got a Tshirt on and your haulin tail up the side of a mountain with a strong wind and 30 degree temps 5)The only negatives about this piece are A) the placement of the chest pocket... why on earth would you make it internal and so small? B) there is no B... Bottom line: This is a fanatic piece. It does exactly what its designed to do... be a light, block wind, move well, and generally be an butt kicking sfotshell that will be one of your go to piece every time you want to be outside and on the go... It even looks good enough to take it out on the town!!!!!

Awesome Jacket, Wont take it off!
I looked at softshells from Marmot, Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear, Arcteryx and Mammut. I decided on the Ultimate Hoody from Mammut for its quality in design and functionality. The full pit-zips and thumb loops were a huge selling point and perform magnificently. I have gone on three rainy day-hikes of at least 8 miles with this jacket in the last few weeks and it has not failed me yet. It kept me warm at 24F with the snow coming down(wearing one layer of thermals underneath) as well as cool at 50 degrees on a strenuous uphill hike. It is definitely windproof and can keep up with sustained rain for about 45 minutes before i felt penetration. Aesthetically this jacket is "hip", definitely fits well and looks good in town. Highly recommended.
