Mountain Hardwear knows hats
Ha! I am wearing this hat as I write this review... I've been addicted to the dome perignon hat, but decided to try this when I saw a review that it was good for biking. Haven't been able to wear it skiing yet, but I think it will be good for the cross-country exertion. Am thinking of trying it on my bike soon, but the snow maker is still sticking around in Colorado.. so will maybe use it skiing before biking. It is warmer than one would think given the incredible lightness of the hat. Till now, this hat has been used feeding the horses and stargazing. Tend to forget it is even on your head, and that is saying something about how well this hat fits.
100% as advertised
Bought this for the purposes of staying warm on the slopes and keeping the wind out. Absolutely served its purpose. fleece lining right around the ears was perfect. Off the slopes, alos worked out well. 100% as advertised.
Amazing wind-blocking
In the short time I've owned it, I've used this hat around town on windy and/or wet days, skiing, snowshoeing and driving in the cold with all the windows down and heat off (just to test it). The rim has a 3" or so band of fleece and the rest is thin windstopper fabric. The hat does a great job of stopping the wind, and as such, keeps you warm, even though it's very thin. You can actually see light through it easily. The wind blocking is so good that is muffles sound quite a bit while it's over your ears, since the windstopper material is there as well. It can transmit some interesting sounds when it rubs on your hood or jacket. The bucket of the dome is quite tall, so when I pull it all the way down on my large head, my ears are completely covered. This can be good, but if you wear this under a helmet, there will be extra on top or your ears will be covered. I gave 5 stars for comfort since it keeps your ears warm, even thought I'd rather the bucket were shorter. Just be aware of the fitment when you order. It appears durable, but I haven't put it to any sort of abrasion or real stresses. Another note: the tags are very long, so you may want to cut them off or otherwise remove them.
The hat fits my large head very well. It covers my ears with room to spare. Lightweight and warm.
Men's Transition Dome Beanie
I purchased this hat in anticipation of snow. My old hat did not have any protection from wind, so I wanted to try something that did. The material is windproof and the sizing is accurate. I measured my head and selected the corresponding size. It was spot on. It kept my head very warm and I could not feel any wind coming through. The hat appears to have normal machine wash instructions should you have to do that. I selected the gray color which is a silvery color. I would purchase this hat again. Shipping was very fast from Altrec.
