another Mt. Hardwear winner
Great hat-will keep you warm and dry in snow and rain without making your head too hot. The sizing is a bit large-not much stretch in the circumference. Also, the bill can be molded to shape but is very short.
Not what I was hoping for but will be OK
Well, I was hoping this would be something similar to OR's Hat for All Seasons, a hat that was made undersized and way over priced. THis hat doesn't quite get there. I was looking for a hat with Gore-Tex, which this one says it has, that would work as a rain/snow hat in winter in place of a hood. I wear glasses and need a visor to keep rain and snow off my glasses and this works well for that purpose. The flexible brim is a great idea, although it does get bent out of shape allot and takes a bit of work to get it in shape. Certainly not a hat you'd wear to the bar after a day in the wild. By itself the cloth covering that goes over the ears is easily pushed back by anything great than a 10 mph wind, so for a very cold day this hat can't be worn by itself, at least not by me. My ears get very cold easily. What I have found this hat very useful for is to wear under a shell during rain and snow. I get the brim and some extra warmth on my ears and don't have to wear a fleece hoody under the shell to keep my head warm. On extra cold days or dry cold days I'll wear this under a fleece hoody, again mainly for the brim to shield my eyes from the sun. All in all this is a keeper , but still looking for the ultimate hat for winter.
