We did a multi-day winter rafting trip in Oregon - 2 guys & 2 boats. Highs in the 40's & lows in the 30's. With rain projected every day, I bought a Wing. It was a good thing we got it. It rained off an on the whole trip but the evening of day 2 it rained like cats & dogs. It was nasty out that night but the wing was still standing & we were dry! We positioned the tents up to the high edge of the Wing, cooked in the middle & let the rain run off the low side. I bought 2 extra MSR 10' poles, which turned out to be a really good call cause we could customize where we wanted the run off. Each of the 6 corners has a super durable covering & a pole hole that worked with the MSR poles. Easy to set up. Frankly the hardest part of the set up was pounding in the stakes. We cut 2" aluminum angle iron into 12" - 18" steakes with holes drilled for biners to clip. That made this a bomber shelter. In the morning, dry suit up & break down camp.

I ordered the Blue wing from Altrec. I was shipped the current Gray Wing from NRS which was what I had hoped. The Grey model also comes with the orange lines for better visibility. I tested this wing this past weekend on the Green river just above the takeout for Desolation Canyon in Utah. This Wing withstood wind gusts above 30 mph. I couldn't use the included stakes as anchors as they wouldn't hold. With permanent anchors (embedded rocks)this wing was impressive. I ended up taking it down because everything under it was being blown away. The Wing suffered no damage. The material is very thin and lite but very strong. The corners are reinforced very well. There is a grommet in each corner for the tips of the included poles and a loop for oar handles. I was a little reluctant to spend this much money on a "tarp" but I'm very pleased that I did. I think I'll get many good years service out of this. I'll need to find some better stakes to complete the package. Nice bag for the Wing, stakes and poles also.
