During the summer, no pad needed - these are well ventilated which makes them perfect for warmer weather camping. During colder weather, couple with a sleeping pad or an extra blanket or two for insulation and you will stay nice and toasty. Apx 10 lbs - instead of the 18 to 40 most canvas cots run Carry bag makes a nice place on the side to tuck your glasses, phone, flashlight and books. A bit taller than some other cots so not so hard to get out of in the am. The first time we set them up they were a little tricky, but after that no issues. We love them!
