Great Kids Backpack
We are experienced backpackers and did lots of research before purchasing this. We bought it last year for our 9 year old and then found out that several of our friends also bought it for their kids...we all rave about it. The best feature is that it's easily adjustable which allows it to fit a range of ages and sizes. It's light with enough capacity for a young backpacker and has good features as far as straps & pockets, etc. We haven't had it long enough to really comment on durability but so far so good.
Great kids backpack
This backpack has plenty of adjustable features to ensure a custom fit. My 8 year old daughter carried her sleeping pad and clothes comfortably on an 7-day backpacking trip. She was delighted to find an easily-accessible snack compartment. I was delighted the pack fit her well!
Nice pack for a first time camper
There were a few nice surprises with this pack--the first was how easily this could be fitted up/down on my daughter's back. We could adjust and retry with the pack fully loaded. It also has a load of compression belts and also hooks on the outside that really made carrying things like sit-upons, water bottles, etc., easier to carrier. The build in rain cover was a gift! And, my daughter loved the little zip pockets along the waist belt, too. It was a great place for her to store a little pocket money, a few bandages and her bandana. There are only two small adjustments I'd make to this pack, though the way they are now--work well, too. The adjustment belts at the waist--I wish they were like the adult Osprey pack ones, which are a tad easier to adjust. I also wish there was a zipper down at the bottom of the pack for easier access, also like some Osprey adult packs. This is a kid version, and you certainly wouldn't carry as much as in the adult's, so unpacking to get something at the bottom isn't too tedious. But, a zipper sure would be nice! Overall--absolutely loved the pack for a weekend trip.
Best Kids Pack
My son did his first pack with me in March and used his school backpack. Needed a little more than a daypack. I wanted to see how much he enjoyed packing before I spent the money on a good pack. He LOVED it! i'v never gone cheap on any of his gear I think good gear (dry, warm, comfortable, etc.) is essential to enjoying the activity. We went to a local outfitter and tried the Jib and the Deuter Fox 30. We also tried the REI Comet. Both the Osprey and Deuter are adjustable (my son is 7 and uses the 19 setting) but the Osprey had pack volume he could grow into (an additional 300 ci). It's also extremely well built compared to the REI Comet. You pay a little more (I was able to use an Altrec 20% off coupon) but it's worth it + you can't go wrong with Osprey. I have an Aether 70 and have been VERY happy with the purchase.
Osprey Jib...the best kids pack I have seen yet.
This pack is basically a small version of my own Stratos 65 by Osprey. My son has used this pack on three snowshoe and hiking overnights and he has experienced no discomfort and I inspected his shoulders and back and the pack left no redness or hotspots anywhere. Nice work Osprey once again! I am now buying one for my daughter
