Eliminate most of the challenges of wet weather riding with the Men's Pearl Izumi Select Barrier WxB Jacket. Using 2.5 layer SELECT Barrier WxB fabric, this waterproof, breathable jacket features fully taped seams and a waterproof zipper to help keep the wet stuff out. A detachable, over the helmet hood with brim, a drop tail, and asymmetrical cuffs also aid in keeping you dry. At the hem, a one-hand pull elastic drawcord, with a welded, reinforced exit point, makes the final cinch in the barrier against nasty weather. Excellent, big guys take heed
This thing works well for running or cycling in the rain/wind with a single thin base layer or more if you size up. (Fully waterproof/breathable) The fit is very close and runs small. Pearl Izumi states that this jacket has a more generous cut and is "less form fitting" than their Fly softshell but I disagree. Having both I must say that the cut is VERY similar i.e., the Select Barrier IS form fitting to the point that if you intend to layer for cold, sizing up is a must. Moreover, while their athletic cut is the best around, Pearl Izumi likely does not intend for anyone over 185 and 6' to wear their stuff. Those are my numbers exactly and I wear a XXL just to have a little room. The detachable hood works connects with extremely low profile snaps - nice feature and definitely superior to a zipper. The hood rolls up very small and stows in the aft pocket. The jacket's bulk is next to nothing - compressible down to the size of a man's wallet, maybe less. Vast improvement over a running windbreaker or using a alpine shell for running in the slop. Not likely to take much abuse as it is very light.
WXB Jacket
This jacket performs very well in the rain in Seattle. I purchased the screaming yellow color which is highly visible. The jacket is easy to use over layers of clothing for warmth. Rain drops will 'pimple' the fabric but this does not affect performance.
use caution
the jacket fits small has room for lightweight undergarment but not much more. would recommend you size up to ensure extra room keeps the wind and water out. great style lots of compliments
