Designed as a self-braking system for when the rope suddenly comes under tension, the Petzl Grigri has become a standard at sport crags worldwide. Adding a no nonsense mechanical advantage, its internal cam auto locks on a big catch, to reduce the human error factor. More comfortable when holding tension, and smooth on a lower with its lever release, the Grigri the preferred device when it comes to aid climbing simplicity and reliability. The Grigri is excellent for belaying a leader or second, and single rope descents.

Must have!!!
Although the auto-locking is no replacement for a skilled belayer, the gri-gri makes life so much easier!!! Although it's useless for rapelling, and thus it's no replacement for having an ATC, I would highly recommend it to climbers of all skill levels.

Life Saver
Petzl has produced many easy to use and well built pieces of climbing hardware. The Grigri is no different. The belaying device is great for unexperienced or amature belayer. It's auto-locking system prevents any slipage of rope throught the devise in the accurance of a fall. All in all it is great piece of hardware that I strongly advise all climbers to have.
