Smartwool Women's Mountaineering Xtra Heavy Mid-Calf Socks
Ideal for a climb of Mount Rainier, or that trip-of-a-lifetime trek in the Himalayas, the SmartWool Mountaineering Xtra Heavy Mid-Calf sock bathes your feet in high altitude comfort. The unique SmartWool fibers have the ability to keep feet warm and dry when the temperature drops and perspiration free when the temperature rises. This is due to the fiber's fast moisture moving characteristics, transporting water before it condenses while still in the vapor stage. The SmartWool Mountaineering Xtra Heavy Mid-Calf sock not only cushions the bottom of the foot, but the top of the foot too. This aids in protecting the foot from pressure caused by stiff boot uppers, crampon straps, and impact from kicking steps up long couloirs. Another feature of great value is the arch and ankle bracing - areas of increased spandex content to comfortably hug the foot and eliminate sock movement and bunching. After all, the last thing you want to worry about is an annoying wrinkle in your socks buried within your boots, crampons, and gaiters.
- Fabric content: 80% wool, 19% nylon, 1% spandex
- Full cushioning surrounds foot
- 2 x 1 rib knit cuff provides excellent horizontal stretch
- Arch and ankle brace knit with spandex
- Flat-knit toe seam and side panel
- Mid-calf height

I walk my dog year round in every kind of weather. It has been hard to find thick and warm socks for the mid-west winters but these are the best I have come across. Super thick and comfy! I will be buying more!

Smartwool Rocks my Socks!
I am a cold-natured person that recently moved to N.E United States. These socks are amazing!! I wear them everywhere, super comfy. They keep your toes nice and warm. Can't wait to use them when it actually gets cold!

Not completely sold
Bought these for ice climbing as well as a winter ascent on Mt Washington. They are indeed thick and so cushion really well. I had new shoes and new socks and not once did I feel chafing or bunching. So no blisters at all - which is a huge plus. On the minus side -- my feet were cold way too much while wearing these. I originally bought two pairs but am sending the second pair back and will try a different brand.
