Stabilicers STABILicers

A favorite of letter carriers, ice anglers and determined winter walkers, 32North's STABILicers Originals have flexible rubber soles embedded with 34 case-hardened (and replaceable) steel cleats for traction on slick ice and unyielding hardpack snow. STABILicers have straps with adjustable hook-and-loop fasteners that easily fit over hiking boots and casual shoes when sized properly. The sole has an easy flex that fits easily over the bottoms of most shoes on the market. The rugged steel ice cleats even work well on slippery stream rocks in places where felt-sole-clad fishermen fear to tread. While the steel cleats can last indefinitely on snow and ice, the steel edges will eventually wear down on rocks and pavement. 32North offers replacement cleats for their STABILicers (sold separately) and you can easily replace worn down cleats with a socket wrench or screwdriver.

No More Slipping!
I live in a ski resort. We have snow cover for 6 months of the year. The snowplow does a great job keeping our unpaved roads clear of snow for driving but that action leaves a hard-packed, slippery and sometimes icy surface for pedestrians. Also, early in the snow season, our heavily-used backcountry trails become very slippery and potentially dangerous. Some hikers in my area wear YakTrax. I knew that product would be too "weeny" for me, especially when I was finding lost YakTrax along the trails I use. A Search & Rescue friend recommended Stabilicers so I bought a pair in Nov 2008. This product is great! I wear heavy, leather mountaineering boots and am not aware of the extra weight of the Stabilicers on my feet. The steel cleats give me excellent traction on hardpacked snow and even on ice. I no longer have to risk injury ascending or descending steep, slippery slopes. The rubber soles are sturdy and thick. They have stood up to all kinds of trail and cross-country hiking. The harness webbing looks new after 3-1/2 seasons of heavy wear. The Velco tabs still adhere tightly to each other. There is no slippage of the harness, the sole stays in place under my boot and I have never dropped one of my Stabilicers because the Velco tabs came undone. After 3 winters of hard use, I lost one cleat from each sole. I should have ordered a package of spare cleats when I bought the Stabilicers. I placed an order for the replacements with Altrec and got them within 2 days. After replacing the two missings ones, I resumed my backcountry hiking. When I returned that same day, I noticed I had lost the 2 new ones. I'm guessing the rubberized holes must have become enlarged during the process of the original cleats working themselves out of the sole. My husband inserted "Duco Cement" (a household glue in a tube) into the holes and on the steel shaft of the new cleats and inserted them. He's had good results with this cement inside our 4WD mini-RV that is subjected to incredible vibrations and twisting on back roads. Hopefully, this procedure will keep the replacement cleats from falling out again. Each sole has 17 cleats so, even with one missing, there was no difference in traction. In fact, I wouldn't have noticed that I had lost the cleats if my friend had not discovered it when I showed her my Stabilicers. She later bought a pair for herself. Since I bought my pair and my husband's pair, I have recommended this product to 10 friends (most of whom also purchased Stabilicers) and countless tourist-hikers that I have encountered on our backcountry trails.

Fit perfectly
I had read reviews that the sizing chart was wrong, but the small size in these fit woman's size 8 perfectly. And they slip on very easily. I can't wait to use them when we head to the mountains to ski.

stable icers
These are must haves for New England winters. Now icy days don't stop me from going out and walking the dog. The velcro make them easy to put on and they stay on. Definitely worth the price!

Makes walking on all the ice we have had this year easy. I wish I would of had them years ago. Easy to put on and off and also easy to replace the screws in the bottom. Would recommend to anyone.

STABILicers 4ever!
I received these as a gift from my husband and couldn't figure out why he was so excited about them- I actually put them in a closet and forgot about them for awhile. THEN on a very windy, rainy, snowy, icy, freezing rain day I was cleaning out that closet, and it was driving me nuts! I really had to get out- and there were those crazy things my husband had given me..... out I went! I was gone for hours; I didn't want to come in! I felt like a kid with the best new toy! I must have tromped around for 3 or 4 hours- through freezing rain, over ice and snow in all kinds of terrain: roads, sidewalks, fields, trail, rock.... I could go anywhere. There is nothing more slippery than water over a bed of ice. Not only did I not slip, or wipe out-- I had an absolute blast being out in the weather going anywhere I wanted to go all at full speed. I am a convert! Great product.
