Suunto Core Watch
You look up and see stars. But your Suunto Core sees an approaching squall. And it tells you with the Storm Alarm - one of several intelligent features that can help you make consistently good decisions. The compass features a rotating bezel for traditional use, or a one-touch function that allows you to sight, lock and follow a bearing. Daily functions include dual time, date, alarm, sports chronograph and predicted times for sunrise and sunset.

Best bang for the backpacker's buck
This watch is the best of the major brands for ease of use and reliability. As long as it is calibrated periodically, which is easy to do, it will get the job done. And it also looks good. Like another reviewer, the only thing that I would change is to have it solar powered.
Great watch for backpacking
Bought this watch last month and just took it out on a 5 day hike through the Beartooth wilderness in Montana. This watch does everything a backpacker could need it to do-- sunrise/sunset, compass, altitude-- all accurate as far as I could tell. The watch also looks great, although it is large and might look funny on medium to small wrists. My only complaint would be that this watch is not solar powered. This is something Suunto needs to focus on in the future. I hear that this watch does go through batteries pretty rapidly, and to get caught in the wild without a watch would be a huge problem. I would be willing to pay more to have this feature.
