The North Face Elkhorn 0 Degree Sleeping Bag
Camping in sub-freezing weather might not appeal to you, but if you've ever spent the night in a lightly insulated ski cabin, you'll appreciate the extra thermal performance of this Elkhorn 0 Degree Sleeping Bag from The North Face. It's insulated with a lightweight and affordable H.O.T. (Heatshield Optimal Technology) SL insulation for superb warmth in an overlapping shingle construction that helps eliminate cold spots. The zipper on the Elkhorn 0 Degree Sleeping Bag has an easy-grab pull and a full-length draft tube to keep cold air from seeping inside throughout the coldest hours of the night. There's also a shoulder-height zippered pocket for your cellular phone, watch or travel alarm clock. Unlike some expensive mountaineering bags, the Elkhorn 0 Degree Sleeping Bag is streamlined and doesn't require excessive fumbling to figure out pockets and zippers. Nylon stuff sack included for convenient storage and portability.

Will buy another!!! !
I recieved my Elkhorn 0 Degree Sleeping Bag last week. I bought it for my son who is in the Boy Scouts and together we love winter camping. The weather in NH was below zero last night. My son was so excited about the gift he wanted to try it out. We set up the tent (summer tent) and built a campsite in the back woods. Once we settled in my son was sound asleep in 20-30 minutes. He woke up this morning and had slept straight thru. He wants to keep camping every night!!!! I guess this is as good a review as I can give with owning it in such a short time!!!! Thanks Altrec for a great item. Thanks for a great website!!
Great bag
I just got into the whole backpacking business and didn't really know much about how to distinguish good sleeping bags from bad ones. As it turned ou, this one is fantastic. I slept on a totally wet tarp in my tent on two nights and didn't feel a thing apart from a really really mild chill on the back. I slept in about mid 30s without having to throw any layers on and I was very comfortable in them. I say they are warm and not very warm because very warm sounds like it may be frying you. I think this is perfect in every way apart from it's size/weight which is the case for almost all synthetic sleepig bags. I think this will hold out at 0F. So far so good. Highly recommend the Elkhorn.
Good bag, but not a true zero
I purchased the North Face Elkhorn after having to return other sleeping bags because of overuse of DWR applications which I am allergic to. I'd like to thank North Face for producing a bag that was free of these chemicals. Without this option, I'd be using blankets. I'd love for the down sleeping bag makers to stop using DWR. It's not exactly healthy or "green". My Elkhorn has now seen around ninety camp days. It is built of quality materials and has a nice look and feel. The zipper is just OK, but that's to be expected at this price level. I'm 6'3, 210 pounds and the Elkhorn long fits me perfectly. It's nice and comfortable at the shoulders. I alos like how fast the bag dries when it gets wet, which is an advantage over down. So what are the negatives? Well, I knew going in that there's no way this is a true zero degree bag--not at this price. My initial use of the bag proved this assumption correct. I'd rank the Elkhorn as a 25 degree bag at best, and that's OK. The bag has seen all kinds of weather in numerous locations ranging from Glacier National Park, Yellowstone NP, the Gallatin National Forest, Redwood NP, Lassen NP, Crater Lake NP, Yosemite NP, Sequoia NP, Grand Teton NP, etc. It's done a terrific job of keeping me warm in tough conditions as long as temps are above 25 degrees. Anything more and I need to toss on another blanket, even if I have full clothing and a knit hat on. This is using layered, closed-cell foam sleeping pads. The other negative is the weight of the bag, but the weight is not a big of a deal as the pack-ability. This is a hard bag to compress. If you're looking for a 25 degree bag with an emphasis on build quality, this is a nice bag. I definitely recommend it and I spend a ton of time in our public lands. The Elkhorn passed the test with flying colors.
Elkhorn 0 Degree Sleeping Bag Elkhorn 0 Degree Sle
First things first. Altrec sent this and another bag immediatly and so it was delivered within 3 days. This is cool when you are waiting. Anyway... The bag is a 0 degree bag. The bag is thick in filll and cut somewhat narrow but very warm and comfy. It is no light weight, but for car camping or overnight backpack trips it will be just fine. and of course fine quality.
