An Exceptional Item
This bag is absolutely everything I was hoping for. Plenty of room for everything I routinely carry (laptop, book or two, papers, pens, phone, power/phone cords, PDA, lunch etc...) with plenty of pockets and compartments for organization. It is really well made with sturdy buckles and clips and feels great as a back pack or over the shoulder. I was prepared for the inconvenience of the front flap covering all the internal compartments because I had gone through the reviews before buying. Yes, it's a little inconvenient BUT was greatly appreciated in a recent driving rain. I doubt the contents of the bag would have stayed as dry if the zippers had been exposed. I also read complaints about the bag falling over when it is stood upright. Yes, sometimes it does but it doesn't bother me a bit. It's funny - I bought the Transcontinental to replace my laptop briefcase which was just too bulky. Although capacity is about the same, it is significantly easier to move around the urban jungle with the Transcontinental.

Wonderful, if way expensive!
Having owned a Trager Seattle Messenger before, I knew the quality was going to be great. The $150 price tag, however, gave me a very long pause. But I'm glad I bit the bullet and bought this bag. It is spacious (in a strange, compartmentalized way), accessible, and very versatile. It is also very comfortable and strong, and I see it lasting me well after I have gotten my money's worth out of it, say, 5-6 years from now. Altrec service was outstanding as well, and they have made a repeat customer from this first time buyer. Wonderful experience all around!

A roomy bag with versatile carrying options and avg org options
The Tranger Transcontinental bag is roomy and has plenty of carrying options (handle, shoulder strap, backpack style). The organization of pockets on the inside is average, and the lack of velcro or zippered closures is a bit inconvenient. The flap pocket is marginally useful, and the first set of inside compartments could use a zipper down the sides to provide better access. For the money I expected a bit better design functionality.
