Tornado Chaser

Anyone who grew up in tornado country knows not to mess with the massive twisters that can level a house and turn a mobile home into a missile. While the rest of us take cover, storm chaser Tim Samaras tries to get as close as possible, especially in Tornado Alley. Here in Manchester, South Dakota, his goal is to place scientific probes so that they get pulled up into the funnel to record wind speed, barometric pressure, and other information that could help save lives—while keeping his own. This incredible footage looks more like computer-generated imagery than an old-fashioned force of nature.
